Overview

One of the greatest tragedies ever written, Medea tells the devastating story of a woman betrayed by her husband who takes unimaginable revenge, exploring love, power, exile, and the destructive force of human passion.

In Medea, Euripides reimagines one of Greek mythology's most infamous heroines in a timeless tragedy of betrayal and vengeance. After sacrificing everything for her husband Jason, Medea finds herself abandoned when he chooses to marry the daughter of the King of Corinth to secure wealth and status. Isolated in a foreign land and stripped of her place in society, Medea refuses to accept humiliation.

Driven by grief, rage, and extraordinary determination, she devises a chilling plan that will destroy Jason's future and forever alter both of their lives. Blending psychological depth with moral complexity, the play confronts questions of justice, revenge, gender, exile, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. More than two thousand years after its premiere, Medea remains one of the most powerful and provocative works in world theatre.

Synopsis

After helping Jason win the Golden Fleece and abandoning her homeland for him, Medea has built a new life in Corinth. When Jason leaves her to marry the daughter of King Creon, Medea is cast aside, facing exile with her children and stripped of everything she sacrificed to gain.

Consumed by betrayal and determined to make Jason suffer, Medea devises a devastating plan of revenge that challenges the limits of justice, love, and human morality. As the tragedy unfolds, every character is forced to confront the terrible consequences of pride, ambition, and the destructive power of wounded passion.
