Overview

In 1969, The Who created a rock opera that changed the course of music history. And now, it’s back in a dazzling all-new production that feels more relevant than ever.

Myth and spectacle combine in this fresh reinvention that includes the unforgettable anthems “I’m Free,” “See Me, Feel Me,” “Sensation” and “Pinball Wizard.” After witnessing his father shoot his rival, the young Tommy Walker is lost in the universe, endlessly and obsessively staring into the mirror. An innate knack for pinball catapults him from reticent adolescent to celebrity savior. Tony Award-winning composer Pete Townshend and Tony Award-winning original director Des McAnuff find powerful resonance reexamining this classic story for today.

History

The Who's Tommy is a thrilling rock musical based on the legendary 1969 concept album by The Who. Featuring unforgettable songs, electrifying performances, and a powerful story of resilience and self-discovery, the production follows Tommy Walker, a boy who becomes deaf, dumb, and blind after a traumatic childhood event. As he grows into an unlikely cultural icon, Tommy embarks on a remarkable journey toward healing, hope, and personal freedom. Filled with spectacular staging and iconic rock music, The Who's Tommy remains one of the most groundbreaking musicals ever created.

Synopsis

Following a traumatic incident in his childhood, Tommy Walker becomes psychologically deaf, dumb, and blind. Unable to connect with the outside world, he grows up isolated and misunderstood. Unexpectedly, Tommy develops extraordinary skills as a pinball player and becomes an international sensation. His fame transforms him into a cultural and spiritual icon, but the pressures of celebrity force him to confront his past and search for genuine self-understanding. Ultimately, Tommy discovers that true liberation comes not from fame or adoration, but from human connection and inner healing.
