Dörte Lyssewski (born July 28, 1966 in Winsen (Luhe), Lower Saxony) is a German actress.
Dörte Lyssewski studied acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Hamburg and received after 1989 her first engagement at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin under director Peter Stein. Under his direction she played here u. a. the Varya in The Cherry Orchard by Anton P. Chekhov alongside Jutta Lampe and Peter Simonischek, directed by Luc Bondy in the world première of closing choir by Botho Strauss and in William Shakespeare's Winter's Tale.
After a few years as a freelance actress, in which she works u. a. Played at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, she was hired by director Matthias Hartmann in 2000 to the Schauspielhaus Bochum, where she remained until 2005. Here she played in productions such as Don Karlos by Friedrich Schiller Princess Eboli, the title role in Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen and the Charlotte in the stage version of the elective affinities of Goethe. She was awarded the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring for the last two performances under the direction of Ernst Stötzner.
In Bochum Lyssewski also played in the world premiere of The Fool and his wife on the side of Tobias Moretti, directed by Matthias Hartmann. In 2005 she was seen at the Berliner Ensemble in the production of Strauss by Die and the other Luc Bondys as daughter of Edith Clever. In 2006 she performed in the Schauspielhaus Zürich in the world premiere of Yasmina Rezas The God of Carnage, directed by Jürgen Gosch. The production was nominated for the 2007 Nestro prize. From 2004 to 2009 she was a guest at the Berliner Ensemble, at the Théâtre de l'Odéon and at the Paris Opera, at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, at the Deutsches Theater and at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz.
Since her debut in Wyspianskis Wesele, directed by Andrzej Wajda in 1992, Dörte Lyssewski has regularly appeared at the Salzburg Festival, including 1995 and 1996 as Warja in Der Kirschgarten and 1997 in the title role of Grillparzer's Libussa. From 1999 to 2001 she presented on the side of Ulrich Tukur the passion in Jedermann.
Dörte Lyssewski has been a member of the Vienna Burgtheater since the 2009/2010 season and was featured there as Barbara Fordham (daughter) in the 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Family by Tracy Letts, directed by Alvis Hermanis. In March 2010 she took over the role of Pia under the direction of Thomas Vinterberg in the piece written by him with his co-author Mogens Rukov The funeral. Directed by Matthias Hartmann, she regularly plays the Alkmene in Vienna in Heinrich von Kleist's comedy Amphitryon. Under Avis Hermanns she plays the Genia in The Land and the general in Platonov on the side of Martin Wuttke. On the side of Jens Harzer, she is seen in the Handke premiere of The Beautiful Days of Aranjuez.
In the season 2013-14 she participated in the contemporary witness production The Last Witnesses of Doron Rabinovici and Matthias Hartmann at the Vienna Burgtheater; the production referred to the November Pogroms 1938, gained high esteem from the public and the press and was invited to the Berliner Theatertreffen 2014.
In addition to the theater Lyssewski also works in audio productions, as a voice actress (for Cate Blanchett in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogy) and in film and television.
